Localized Power Networks
Mini-grids combine generation, storage, a distribution network, control and customers into one electricity supply system serving more than one customer within a defined area.
Under the NERC Mini-Grid Regulations 2026, isolated mini-grids are classified up to 5 MW per site and interconnected mini-grids up to 10 MW per site, with defined provisions for grid arrival, permits, customer protection, tariffs and interconnection.
